The name Mettwurst comes from lower Germany, where its known in both Germany and Holland as metworst. The expression "mett" refers on the one hand to the restriction of the Lower German term for meat or minced pork without bacon, on the other hand, the proximity to the latin "mattea" for "a delicious dish made of minced meat, herbs, etc." It is highly likely that both interpretations complemented each other.
